It was in 1880 when Prince had just opened his first liquor store in his home town of Coventry in the Midlands whilst on a skiing trip in March 1885 to the Swiss Alps he encountered the presence of Max who had set his mind to climbing the Matterhorn mountain that year and was training on the foot of the mountain.

They started a conversation which was to change there very existence and developed a friendship which was to last for years to come.

Max was an active timber trader buying timber from the High Tatra mountains in Bohemia and distributing it to various locations in and around Germany.

In his free time he dedicated his time to growing wines on his estate on the banks of the river Elbe and successfully selling it in his restaurant on the estate .

This lead to Prince who was abound by his beautifully crafted wines to find interest back home somehow this did not prove very difficult and was a raving success with his customers.

In return Max took on his advice and imported some English Ales which flourished with his customers in the warm summer evenings and so it went on for many years.
